The creator of the gripping real-life series Intervention, Sam Mettler has spent most of his career on much lighter fare. Mettler has been a comedic writer, actor and occasional stand-up comedian, with guest starring roles on The Drew Carey Show, The Norm Show and multiple TV commercials. He built on these experiences and early 90's stint as morning man radio host in Syracuse, NY, as he rose to the small screen with writing credits on South Park, MTV's Head-Trip and Fox's Misguided Angels.
When reality-based programming exploded, Mettler decided to take his talents to the genre and drew upon comedy's alter ego, tragedy, to create what the New York Times called "a significant evolutionary moment in reality television," Intervention.
Lauded by Oprah Winfrey, Larry King, The Today Show, Good Morning America and Howard Stern, Intervention has become a ratings and critical bonanza. Currently in its third season it has become AETN's number two show in overall ratings and key demographics.
Mettler serves as Executive Producer, Director and Writer, working from the field to the edit bay in what many believe to be one of the most emotionally, mentally and physically difficult non-fiction programs ever produced. In the non-fiction genre, Mettler has also served as writer and producer for National Geographic's Expeditions to the Edge.
Mettler is currently Executive Producer of a new pilot he has created for Bravo Network entitled Take My Ex, an hour-long docu-reality show in which divorced folks find mates for their ex-spouses. Bravo calls this "a very new take on the whole concept of dating and relationships." Mettler continues to expand his projects under the shingle of his recently formed production company, MadJack Entertainment. When not writing, shooting or producing, he is busy developing both non-fiction and scripted fare for both broadcast networks and cable providers. |
